Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

San Diego County : Cuyamaca Rancho State Park
March 2023 brought cool temperatures and severe winter storms to California's mountain regions. This included San Diego's Peninsular Range where over a foot of snow fell in areas that typically receive inches. Once roads were cleared I drove to Lake Cuyamaca and parked along an open plain just east of Highway 79. The sun began setting under clear skies, its warm light coloring tall blades of dormant grass jutting from the ice. The moon rising behind distant hills completed what I felt was a beautiful scene.
My first taste of photography was (seemingly ages ago) while taking an intro to photography course. There we learned the basics of shooting, darkroom development, and print with film. In following years I carried my Cannon AE-1 all over the world taking pictures for fun and memories. Upon an introduction to DSLRs, my devotion to photography exploded given the new possibilities I found for manipulating and personalizing images. What feeds this passion is the emotive capacity of art – its ability to evoke strong reactions from viewers. I could spend hours sifting through and losing myself in the work of Eugene Atget or Michael Kenna. I absolutely love their long exposures, how textured skies and oceans soften into a quiet haze in which...
